Lunch at Grandma's

We've gotten in the habit of having lunch with Grandma about two or three times a week. Sometimes she brings lunch to us, and sometimes I pack up the kiddos and take them to her house. Either way, it's a very nice break for me not to think about cooking lunch, having extra hands to hold or feed Mya, and manage the antics of a hyper almost-three-year-old Ty. Now that the weather has cooled off a bit, we've been enjoying eating outside on her deck (that Sylvester built!).
Have you ever watched Sid the Science Kid? Well, Ty loves that show; there was one particular episode where they talked about decay. Now Ty is quite intrigued by decomposition. He's always looking for decaying fruit and vegetables, and he wants to get hands-on by squishing them while singing "decay, decay. It got icky and ucky and smelly and sticky." Grandma's house is a great spot for learning about decaying apples, because she has two apple trees and a crabapple tree as well. So after, and sometimes during lunch, Ty takes off to the backyard to collect "comcaying" (Tyspeak for decaying) apples. He's such a good little helper; he fills up his bucket with apples and dumps them into the compost bin. When he finds really "comgusting" (disgusting) apples he brings them to the table to show everyone. Sometimes he fills his bucket and brings that to over and says that he wants to save them and check how much they "comcay" next time we come over.
You just can't beat that! Delicious (or as Ty says, "comlicious") lunches and hands-on science and learning. Thank you, Grandma! We love you!
