First a P.O.A. (plan of action) had to be determined. We tried using buckets to shape the snow and stack, but the snow just wasn't packing... Next we tried digging out the center of the fort and piling the snow up for the walls, but that was slow-going... Finally we pulled out the snow blower and decided to simply pile the snow and then tunnel out a center (doing it "Old School").

Snow blowing was a one-man-job. So some of us took an opportunity to relax and watch the magic!

About an hour into our creation, my mom showed up to join in the fun. We all did our part, shovels in hands.
Here you can see the begining of the cave-like opening to our fort/igloo. Sylvester took charge of hollowing out the core.

Genius struck and we decided to build in a slide! Of course! No fort would be complete without one! As the frustration set in once Ty would zip down the slide, we knew stairs were in order...

Sylvester also perfected the stairs we created on the side. We used a trowel, water, and a spray bottle to help pack the snow.

By the end of the night, the cave was big enough for several of us to enter and sit upright. A touch of food color, and we signed our masterpiece!

Completely awesome! I so want to build a snow fort, we used to do that when I was a kid but never as big as the one you guys made.
That is a fantastic new tradition! I hope the weather cooperates for many years to come! Happy New Year!!
